Tips for Taking Your GED Exam

There are many reasons why someone may opt to take a GED exam instead of getting their diploma. If you fall into this category, then you may find yourself feeling a little intimidated by the idea. Fortunately, there are many things that you can do to make this process go much easier.

Most states offer anyone over the age of sixteen that are no longer in school, a chance to earn a GED. These are considered the equivalent to a high school diploma and they are accepted by most colleges. If you're considering taking the GED test, the following tips can help make this step much easier.

Tips for taking your GED exam:

' Prepare for the exam in advance by taking time to study. There are books and other sources available that will help you prepare for the test.

' Take advantage of the sample tests that are available to help you be more prepared for your exam.

' When taking the test, use all of your time wisely.

' Don't panic if you begin to fall behind and you're taking too long. Simply begin to work faster and you should be able to make up for lost time.

' Answer every question on the GED exam even if you don't know for sure what the correct answer is. It would be better to guess at the answer than it would be to leave it blank.

' If you catch yourself moving too quickly and know that you'll finish the exam way ahead of schedule, then it would be a good idea to slow down a little. If you still have time left when you reach the end of the test, then you can recheck your work.

The GED test or General Education Development exam consist of five test and you must pass each subject in order to earn your GED. These subjects include language arts reading and writing, mathematics, science and social studies.

GED exams usually take an average of seven to eight hours to complete and they are normally divided up into sections that are completed over the course of three days. All of the test scores will be added up and combined for an average grade which will determine whether or not you pass or fail the test.
